About us

Who We Are

Originally founded as DAPS, The Flock Literary Magazine is a student led society based within the University of South Wales.

Although our team is largely composed of English & Creative Writing students, we also collaborate with and welcome all of those interested in the publication process.

Our Legacy

The tradition of the student literary magazine at USW is nothing new! In past years and under the name DAPs, members of the society created several physical publications, providing a gateway for many into publishing that would not have existed otherwise. Due to COVID-19, the last active publication year for the society was 2018. This year, in an effort to once more create a chance for experience and opportunity, we have revived DAPS and hope to continue to provide wonderful opportunities for students interested in writing and publishing.

In reviving DAPS, we have taken a particular interest in bridging the gap between what it used to be and all that it could be. The largest change will be the introduction of the digital issues, which will not simply modernize the reading experience, but increase visibility for the writers we publish, integrate vital accessibility, and allow us to join the realm of many other literary mags. We have also decided to accept art and photography, and to create more cohesive themes across our issues.

We also decided to rebrand ourselves to ‘The Flock’, representing a ‘flock’ of those who love to share their passion for reading and writing, and also paying homage to the sheep which were found living on the USW Treforest campus in summer 2024.
